How long will the MySpace wave ride?

There are apparently analysts and consultants doubting the popularity of the social interaction site, MySpace.com. There have been articles popping up all over the place claiming that the 50 million registered users on the site are simply a "mirage," since so many members register and then leave soon after. Sure enough, a quick search shows that it is easy to find members that haven't been online in several months. Even if the number of users are drastically inflated, the site is still a growing haven for people around the world to have somewhere to socially interact with one another.

"Certainly there are a large amount of people spending a large amount of time on this site," said Nate Elliot, an analyst for Jupiter Research. "When you look at the huge numbers they throw out there — 50 [million], 60 million registered users — those are a mirage."

It is inevitable that the popularity of MySpace will falter sometime in the near future.

While this is mostly true, you cant argue with the pageviews or the revenue stream!
As for their prediction of the site "faltering in the near future" - its obvious that myspace.com is building more around what they have today, to capitalize on the future.

Just my .02
