MySpace goes for comedy yuks

MySpace is improving its sense of humor.

The social-networking website is partnering with The Improv on MySpace Comedy, a community designed to bring together established and up-and-coming comedians and their fans.

MySpace Comedy, which launches Tuesday, springs from a trend in which comics such as Dane Cook, Joe Rogan and Jay Mohr— who have been using MySpace to post tour dates — share audio and video clips and interact directly with their fans.

MySpace says that with 7,500 comedians using the new tools, MySpace Comedy is the largest online community of comics.

The Improv will be the community's primary content provider. The comedy club chain will provide a "Pic of the Week" based on which comedians are working the stand-up circuit, as well as other exclusive content, behind-the-scenes footage and online contests. In the clubs, The Improv will host "MySpace Nights" throughout the 27-club chain.
